Activists Call for Release of “Peace Mothers”
Two “peace mothers” were taken into custody after trying to make a press statement in Taksim. Activists have called for their release.
The Peace Mothers are agroup of women who oppose the ongoing conflict between the Turkish Armed Forcesand the PKK. Two of them, Türkiye Bozkurt and Behiye Duman tried to make apress statement in Taksim, central Istanbul, but they were taken into custody.
"Police is obstructing democratic rights"
Now the Istanbul branch ofthe Human Rights Association (IHD) has called for their immediate release. TheIHD described it as “worrying” that constitutionally protected meetings,demonstrations and statements were being prevented. It added that the policewas violating freedoms and rights by obstructing a peaceful, non-violentaction. (NZ/TK/AG)
