Drawing attention to the escalating violent events recently, deputy Ufuk Uras of the Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) has made a series of suggestions towards solving the Kurdish problem.

Uras emphasized that there was no need to wait for laying down the weapons in order to solve the Kurdish problem peacefully.

“Once more the civil administrative arrangements are being tried, which simply takes us further away from the essence of the problem. It is enough! We should put in effect some measures that will increase the trust of our Kurdish citizens [in the system].”

Uras’ proposal is as follows:

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s language and attitude that increase the tension about the Democratic Society Party (DTP) should end. Erdoğan is under obligation to solve the problem. The DTP can certainly be criticized, but its existence in the Parliament is still an important chance for the peace.

Minister of Interior Beşir Atalay should warn the security forces about the sit-in activities the DTP is planning to have in Diyarbakır on November 1 and 2. He should make sure that the greatest understanding and flexibility will be provided.

President Abdullah Gül should get together the representatives of all the parties in Parliament as soon as possible and try to create the necessary ground for dialog and civilized discussion.

Speaker of the Parliament Köksal Toptan should have a delegation under the auspices of  the Human Rights Commission of the Parliament be sent to Imrali Prison to investigate the living and health condition there.

Minister of Justice Mehmet Ali Şahin should make an attempt to transfer Abdullah Öcalan, imprisoned leader of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), to a normal place with suitable conditions.
