The sabotage acts on freedom of expression sites antenna-tr.org and ortakpayda.org, both of which are IFEX members, are taken to the court.
Şanar Yurdatapan, spokesperson for the Initiative Against Thought Crime, took the sabotage acts against the sites antenna-tr.org and ortakpayda.org, where the works and activities for the freedom of expression struggles are published, to the prosecutor.
Meeting with prosecutor Zekeriya Öz, who conduct the Ergenekon investigation, and the assistant of the chief prosecutor about this, Yurdatapan said, “I think we should not look for Ergenekon behind every incident. But on the other hand, I do not forgo the possibility that there might be a connection.
Yurdatapan went to the Beşiktaş High Criminal Court in Istanbul yesterday (July 29) and filed a criminal complaint about the attacks on their internet sites.
The Initiative Against the Thought Crime is a member of International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX) like Bianet. IFEX is an umbrella organization for the institutions fighting for the freedom of expression. The initiative organizes various activities to eliminate the anti-democratic laws against the freedom of expression.
Yurdatapan says these individual who describe themselves as “Sabotage TIM” organize through an internet site named www.atabeyler.org. He wants these internet pirates investigated thoroughly. He thinks that prosecutor Öz or another prosecutor will conduct the operation.
Under article 244 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), “Preventing and breaking down the system, destroying or changing its database” is a crime and since “Sabotage TIM” is a criminal organization operating in the internet, this case is also connected with article 220 of forming an organization to commit crime.
Yurdatapan explained that the Atabeyler internet site where the expression “If the matter is the motherland, then the rest is detail,” appears should be accused of “provoking criminal acts, praising the crime and the criminal”, and “provoking a part of the people against another part.” (EÖ/EZÖ/TB)
