Loans to the earthquake-hit zones canceled in a few provinces including Diyarbakır

CHP Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu disclosed the cancellation of the loans to the earthquake-hit zones in some provinces including Diyarbakır.

Giving the news from his social media account Tanrıkulu wrote, "The loans to the earthquake-hit zones have been canceled in a few provinces including Diyarbakır. What is the purpose of abolishing these loans just after the elections? Is it linked to the election?

"The loans to the earthquake-hit regions should cover the whole of the 11 provinces in the disaster area. The discrimination should be corrected at once. I am addressing the government. Do not victimize the Diyarbakır small shop owners this way."

"Related to the elections?

Tanrukulu explained that the Shopkeepers Warranty Cooperatives Union had announced granting of 250 thousand lira of a loan at the earthquake-hit zones in addition to the 500 thousand allocated before. This was a one-year non-refundable fund. It was covering 11 provinces.

"However, yesterday, so as of June 1, this loan was canceled in a number of provinces including Diyarbakır.

"Now we have to ask? What is the purpose of abolishing this loan just after the elections? Is it related to the elections? Diyarbakır is one of the provinces hit by the earthquake; more slightly but it was hit. Our shopkeepers have been the victims, just as in other provinces," Tanrıkulu wrote.  

February 6 earthquakes

On February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 struck the southern city of Maraş. The first quake in the Pazarcık district at 4.17 a.m. was followed by the second one in Elbistan about nine hours later.

The quakes affected 11 cities in Türkiye's south and southeast, as well as Syria's northern parts, where over 5,000 people have died.

Türkiye's death toll from the quakes stands at over 50,000.

Nearly two million people have been displaced due to the earthquakes.
