Turkey’s Caricaturists React Charlie Hebdo Attack

Turkey’s caricaturists and humor writers condemned the attack on Charlie Hebdo that led to the death of 12 people including 4 caricaturists. 

Writers/caricaturists of Uykusuz, Penguen and Leman humor magazines shared their reaction via Twitter. Leman magazine, on the other hand, blackened the profile photo of its Twitter account. 

Humor website Zaytung also announce on twitter that they will not publish any funny stories for a week. 

Erdil Yaşaroğlu (Penguen): The attack against our caricaturist friends is so upsetting. It is horrible to confront caricatures with guns. 

Cem Dinlenmiş (Penguen): We are in mourning. 

Serkan Altuniğne (Penguen): Man of thought writes, draws, talks and talks about his problems like a human being. The situation of those who don’t think is obvious... I am so sorry...

Alpay Erdem (Uykusuz): I vigorously condemn this attack…What are you doing by killing a person, what are doing by killing caricaturists…Shame on you...

Yılmaz Aslantürk (Uykusuz): You can’t scare off caricaturists. Because what they are holding is way more stronger than AK-47. 

Vedat Özdemiroğlu (Uykusuz): Guns and murder don’t suit humanity. Condolences to all families of the slain as well as Charlie Hebdo and all caricature lovers of the world.
