Sabah Newspaper Claims to Have Found Kabataş Incident Evidence

On today’s issue, Sabah Daily newspaper published an interesting “evidence” on the Kabataş Incident - allegations that a veiled woman was harassed by a half-naked and leather-glowed group of Gezi protestors in 2013.

Released on the headline, the aforementioned article was written by Hayrettin Bektaş and Emir Somer with a photo facing the other side of the boat dock in Istanbul’s Kabataş district - a photo taken by Murat Şengül

Inside the photo, an illustration shows the direction of two groups of 20 people who are moving towards a veiled woman and her baby in stroller from opposing directions.

“According to a single footage obtained and analyzed by the police, a group of 20-30 people stayed 52 seconds nearby the woman and harassed her physically and verbally,” the newspaper wrote. 

Sabah also wrote that the crowd’s harassment can’t be viewed due to blocking of public transport stops and claimed that footage of camera with a better angle on the spot were obscured by a “dark hand”. 

“Previously, it was claimed that the group just passed by the victim woman. However, the latest footage proved that the group remained in close approximate with the woman for 52 seconds. The month long blackening campaign has now turned out to be bogus,” the article cited.  

While Sabah newspaper released this feature story, it didn’t release any screenshots from the aforementioned footage. 

Previously, police authorities announced that they have viewed 2,560 hour long footage from nearby surveillance cameras and interrogated around 200 bystanders at the time of the incident. However, they were unable to find any evidence of such attack. (EKN/BM)
