RTÜK to Discuss Dismissing Members Upon Complaint

Kanal A, a TV channel, submitted a complaint to Higher Board of Radio and Television for the removal of two member affiliated with the opposition party Republican People’s Party (CHP). RTÜK approved the request, putting the removal discussion in its agenda. 

Lately, RTÜK attracted media coverage by its contradicting groundings on TV series depicting different lifestyles and attacking Atatürk - Turkey’s founder. 

One of RTÜK’s latest decision to dismiss charges of insulting CHP and Atatürk stirred controversy. 

One media outlet request the removal of member 

Kanal A Television submitted a request for the removal of its members Ali Öztunç and Süleyman Demirkan affiliated with CHP, reportedly on the grounds that they put the previous grounding discussion into RTÜK’s agenda. 

Confirming the request of membership removals, RTÜK declared that the issue will be “taken into consideration” on its higher board. 

RTÜK member angry

“To the member from Justice and Development Party (AKP) who attempt to remove my membership, those who don’t remove my membership are cowards. Those who are afraid of you are cowards,” said Ali Öztunç on Twitter. He also reiterated his words on a program aired at Halk TV. (EÖ/BM)
