Police Cracks Down Karşı Online Newspaper

Karşı, an online daily newspaper, released a statement, saying that police raided their office to demand the removal of article on December 25 Second Row of Corruption Probe Operations. 

The newspaper released a statement, saying that they were asked to remove an article regarding the December 25 Second Row of Corruption Probe Operations. 

“At the moment, our news desk is sieged by police forces. Using their language of threat and pressures, they want to remove our news piece related to December 25 Second Row of Corruption Probe Operations. On the top of that, there is no court or prosecutor order. This is censorship with the exercise of police force,” the online newspaper declared. 

The aforementioned article demanded for removal was written by Emre Erciş and claimed that the detained policemen within the operation were asked for their testimonies regarding the leaked phone recordings of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. 

“They don’t let anyone do their job. They are saying that they would leave if we removed Erdoğan’s leaked phone conversations,” Erciş tweeted. 

Search order for Grihat and Karşı newspaper 

Grihat news website also claimed that their website as well as Karşı newspaper faced prosecution by Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office.

According to that, search orders have been issued to the offices of Grihat and Karşı for charges related to “violating the confidentiality of an ongoing investigation”. 

Karşı newspaper also made an appeal to media organization and professional unions to resist “against the police state”. (EA/BM)
