Homeland Security Act Partially “Withdrawn” From Parliament

Even the government has withdrawn the legislation of the remaining articles of Turkey’s Homeland Security Act draft, the opposition criticized the move saying that the most controversial topics have already been passed.

Homeland Security Act Partially “Withdrawn” From Parliament

The Turkish government has withdrawn the legislation of the remaining articles (from Article 68 to Article 130) of Turkey’s Homeland Security Act draft last night, sending those back to the parliamentarian commission. 

The incident took place as a domestic affairs commission chairman Mehmet Ersoy made a proposal to do so. The draft is now expected to make changes in the issue of passports. 

However, the group of articles regarding the police duty and competences law, the most controversial article opposed by the opposition parties, have already been among the 67 article that have already been legislated. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) made a proposal for the withdrawal of article in the Homeland Security Act. (AS/BM)
