Court Favors Press Freedom in Adıyaman

While Turkey’s Highway Administration 8th Division filled charges against Adıyaman Duruş Newspaper, Adıyaman 1st Magistrate Court ruled that the sued article was within the limits of criticism.

Court Favors Press Freedom in Adıyaman

Adıyaman 1st Magistrate Court ruled that the article of Duruş Newspaper was within the limits of criticism upon a complaint submitted by Highway Administration 8th Division.

The newspaper had reported from its headline on December 17 a traffic accident that left 8 teachers injured and 1 killed in the highway between Adıyaman and Çelikhan. “Highway Division Administrator Must Resign,” the newspaper wrote. 

Highway Administration 8th Division Supervisor Hüsamettin Özendil filed a complaint against the newspaper with demand of 8,000 liras and an apology letter. According to Adıyaman News, while Adıyaman 1st Magistrate Court rejected the demand of Özendil, it ruled that the article is within the limits of criticism. (EA/GOA/BM)
