Call for Presidential Candidates: Declare Your Families’ Assets

Transparency International called for Turkey's presidential candidates to declare their assets including their first degree relatives’ assests and election campaign budget with its expenses.

The organization emphasized the need for a juridical regulation to announce candidates’ assets to public.

By sending a mail for the sake of reinforcing honesty, transparency and accountability, Transparency Organization demanded presidential candidates to declare their assets, election campaign budget and election expense.

So far around 24,000 individuals have signed the #Transparencywins campaign started by the organization on change.org

Why is declaration of assests so important?

Transparency International stated that candidates need to announce their assets to public and present it as a parameter for voters’ decision.

The President of Republic remarks two deficiencies of election law: an obligation for the candidate elected as president to declare his or her assets excluding the commercial partners of the candidate. (ÇT/MEV/BM)
