20 “Internal Security” Detentions on May Day Protests
Hundreds of people were detained during May Day protests and 20 of them were arrested in this morning after the investigation had been completed.
Contemporary Lawyers’ Association’s (ÇHD) chairperson of İstanbul branch, Gökmen Yeşil told bianet that according to the news reached them, 479 people were detained and 20 people were arrested and added that they would make an objection.
Some of the detainee were arrested for “making propaganda for terror organization”, the others were arrested for violating the law no 2911 on meetings and demonstrations.
One of the detainee was a High School student, under the age of 18.
Lawyer Yeşil said,” Internal security law was practiced for the first time on May Day. We consulted the prosecution and we were told they had no authority and we could consult the district governorship. 20 people were arrested. This is the result.
Sent to Criminal Court of Peace
Yesterday, lawyers who wanted to accompany judicial procedure were battered in İstanbul Çağlayan Court House and they couldn’t reach their clients’ case files and get any information.
Some of the detainee were sent to Criminal Court of Peace without their statements had been taken.
Prosecutor didn’t accept the lawyers. Policemen barricaded on 6th floor. Lawyers who trespassed the barricade were battered once more time. They had been battered by riot police in the morning before the press statement.
16 lawyers were battered and injured, they made complaint. (AS/BD/KU)
