110 Die on the Southeastern Border Since 2009

Human Rights Association (İHD) Diyarbakır Branch released a report on the human rights violations on the borders between 2009 and 2014. 

According to the report, at least 110 people were reportedly killed as a result of military or armed gang shootings on the border and 130 were wounded. 

No culprits after 3 years 

İHD Vice Chairman and Diyarbakır Branch Chairman Raci Bilici also reminded that December 28 would be the third anniversary of Roboski Massacre - a Turkish military airstrike that left 34 civilians dead in the outskirts of the southeastern village of Roboski.

“The culprits of this massacre have yet to be found after 3 years. The state mind and political power have hid the culprits like a mystery.”

The report added that the massacre’s pain would never be alleviated until the finding and accounting of culprits. 

Attack against right to life 

The report cited the following on the human rights violations on the border: 

“Those who attempt to cross the border for reasons associated with border trade, relatives and visits, residing near the border,  taking care of animals, war and migration face violence targeted to their right to life by law enforcement officers. 

“It is thoughtful when those who are shot always suffer from their most essential body parts like head, neck and other vital parts of the body. 

“As long as the taking of people’s right to life on the border is seen as the usage of a legal right, the violations are like to increase.” (AS/BM)
