The closure case for the Justice and Development Party continues on its second day. The court rejects the demand for recusation regarding its four members.
The Constitutional Court started the second day of its discussion of the closure case of the Justice and Development Party (AKP).
The court had started discussing the case at 09.35 yesterday and completed its twelve hour first day at 22.00.
Head of the Court Haşim Kılıç told the reporters at the end of the first day that their work was not finished and they would continue tomorrow. The court will continue nonstop until a decision is reached.
The court rejected the recusation demand made yesterday regarding the four member of the court on the grounds that the person who filed the demand was not qualified.
The court is made up of President Haşim Kılıç, Acting President Osman Paksüt, members Fulya Kantarcıoğlu, Ahmet Akyalçın, Sacit Adalı, Mehmet Erten, Necmi Özler, Şevket Apalak, Serdar Özgüldür, Serruh Kaleli and Ayla Pektaş.
Rapporteur Osman Can will join the discussions as well in order to answer questions or present explanations regarding the report. The rapporteur’s conclusion was to reject the closure case.
Yesterday President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met secretly. Although the meeting was not announced, it is thought the two may have met about either the explosions in Istanbul or the closure case. (NZ/EZÖ/TB)
