Chatting with the journalists at his room in İstanbul Justice Hall at Beşiktaş, Turan Çolakkadı, Istanbul’s Chief Prosecutor, informed them about the Ergenekon investigations conducted by Prosecutor Zekeriya Öz. It is certain that the case will be opened under the title of “terror organization”.

2500 pages

The indictment coming out of the investigation with 49 suspects, which has been going on for 13 months now, is 2500 pages. The Prosecutor will not wait for the information that will come from the latest detentions. If necessary, “an additional indictment” will be prepared for them.

Telling the journalists that this was the biggest indictment he has ever read in his professional life, Çolakkadı said that they met with the three public prosecutors that have been conducting the investigation, the prosecutor on duty and the trial prosecutors on June 29 in order to make the last changes.

The court will hear only this case

Çolakkadı said that they requested from the Ministry of Justice that the court that will hear this case not to be given any other cases. The Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) will make the final decision.

Once the court accepts the indictment, the case will be declassified, but the investigation regarding the latest detentions will still be classified information. However, the prosecutors will be able to ask for a decision of confidentially for the parts of the case.

Çolakkadı said that they are still entering the information into the computer with the extra technical help they received from the Ministry of Justice. Since the indictment will be very thick, they made a request that the accused and their lawyers receive the information in CD format. (NZ/EZÖ/TB)
