Cemil Çiçek, the government spokesperson, says that they want a short trial, because this case is hurting Turkey economically.
Cemil Çiçek, the Deputy Prime Minister and the government spokesperson, said that they did not want a long trial, since the ambiguity resulting from the closure case has been damaging to Turkey.
According to the newspaper “Sabah”, “It is the first time that a closure case is filed against a ruling party. We are experiencing many problems that come with such a case. Contrary to the past practice, we did not ask for additional time. In fact, we have used the time we had economically. The trend in our last group meeting was to work in July as well. This may not be about the closure case. We worked until August in the past as well. There is a lot of work to be done.”
Answering the questions after the cabinet meeting, Çiçek said “Today our friends submitted our defense to the High Court. After this, if everything is complete in accordance with the judiciary process, the Supreme Court Chief Prosecutor will present his verbal statement…”
The government spokesperson said that someone in the name of the party was going to present the verbal defense to the court, but they did not know who this person would be. (NZ/TB)
