Investigation into Attack of Kurdish Politician Yielded First Results

Six people were taken into custody in the context of the attack on Kurish politician Ahmet Türk, former Co-chair of the banned Democratic Society Party. The six suspects allegedly instigated İsmail Çelik to attack the politician.

The investigation into the attack on former Co-Chair of the banned pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, Ahmet Türk, yielded first results. Six people were arrested under allegations of having instigated the attacker, İsmail Çelik. Çelik had punched the Kurdish politician and broke his nose after a court hearing Türk had attended in Samsun on the Black Sea coast on 12 April.

A person alias İsmet Y., who apparently has a criminal record, stated at the police that he saw detained defendant Celik talking to a couple of people before the attack. İsmail Y. put forward that Çelik was instigated by these people.

Six people were arrested by the Samsun Police directorate upon this information, among them Çelik's father, a café owner and friends of his. (SP/VK)
