The Women Workers Association (EKD) protested the attack of male prisoners on the female prisoners in the Gebze M Type yesterday.

“The women were threatened with rape”

Derya Eğimez of the EKD said that at the time when the women are shouting for peace, they are trying to poison the already existing feeling of brotherhood among people. The women imprisoned for sentences having to do with the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) were threatened with rape.

Stating that the prison administration was behind the incident, Eğilmez demanded punishment of those responsible for what happened.

After the announcement, the EKD members sent a solidarity postcard to the women kept in the Gebze M Type Prison.

The activity was supported by the Democratic Society Party (DTP) and the Labor Party (EMEP).

Tuncel held a press meeting at the Parliament

DTP’s Istanbul deputy Sebahat Tuncel points out to the fact that every day another incident of torture and bad treatment appears and that an apology from the Ministry of Justice does not solve the problems in prisons.

Tuncel reminded that the women in the Gebze prison were almost lynched.

The women’s organizations who joined the press release demanded to know how the male prisoners could get to the section where the female prisoners were kept. (EZÖ/TB)
