PM Targets Woman Columnist Again

Columnist Amberin Zaman reacted PM Erdoğan calling her a "nasty woman", saying that she was targeted. The incident took place during PM Erdoğan’s presidential rally in Malatya province. 

Reminding that Yeni Şafak newspaper also covered about the issue with her photo, Zaman said that she was being targeted. 

"Yesterday the Prime Minister joined the chorus.  He made the crowd boo me. 

"Well, if not others, have I insulted Islam?"

"This lynching campaign is the summary of what I want to summarize. Without thinking, discussing or using the means of persuasion, they are insulting with a group reflex."

What happened?

During an interview with Zaman, CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said "There's an audience that is said to vary between 25 and 35 percent... This audience does not question anything. Isn't it a bit difficult to wait in Turkey, a Muslim country? Because ultimately, Islam is not a religion that takes individuals on its center but community."

Yeni Şafak newspaper targets

Yeni Safak newspaper's coverage on Wednesday targeted Zaman, claiming that "she indirectly insulted AKP voters and Muslims". 

Erdoğan: Nasty woman

Reminding Zaman's aforementioned words "Our people need a morality reform" on CNN Türk during his presidential rally in Malatya province yesterday, Erdoğan said the following: 

"A militant disguised as journalist, a nasty woman, showed up and asked whether it is hard to wait for a morality reform in a Muslim country.  Know your boundaries.  They handed you a pen, you are writing a column.  You show up at Doğan Group's television, you can easily insult a people with 99 percent of Muslims."

Other female journalists

Earlier, PM Erdoğan also targeted several female journalists including Nuray Mert, Rengin Arslan, Selin Girit and Melis Alphan.  (EA/BM)
