Füsun Erdoğan Receives Life Sentence

Istanbul 10th High Criminal Court issued a verdict in the MLKP case with 29 defendants including bianet writer Füsun Erdoğan, journalists Bayram Namaz, Sedat Şenoğlu, İbrahim Çiçek, Ziya Ulusoy ve Arif Çelebi.

The verdict was issued around 2 am in the morning local time. The court convicted defendants Ali Hıdır Polat, Naci Dayser, Ziya Ulusoy, Bayram Namaz, Arif Çelebi, İbrahim Çiçek and bianet writer Füsun Erdoğan to life sentence. 

The aforementioned defendants were also convicted up to 3,000 years of prison for getting involved in 155 incidents within MLKP. They also received an addition of 24 years for various charges. 

The court issued an arrest warrant for Ziya Ulusoy. Erkan Özdemir was convicted to 3 years 1 month 15 days of prison on the top of his life sentence.

According to ETHA, other sentences were listed as follows:

Serkan Daysdoğdu: 13 years, 1 month, 15 days.

Arzu Torun: 14 years 3 months

Bilgi Tağaç: 11 years 9 months

Elif Almakça: 29 years 1 month 15 days (Arrest warrant issued)

Erkan Salduz: 21 years 9 months 15 days (Arrest warrant issued)

Fatma Siner: 10 years 7 months 15 days

Fethiye Ok: 10 years 7 months 15 days

Hasan Ozan: 14 years 4 months 15 days

Hatice Bolat: 29 years 1 month 15 days (Arrest warrant issued)

Mehmet Ali Polat: 31 years 5 months 15 days

Meral Siner: 7 years 6 months

Rıza Bozkurt: 7 years 6 months

Sedat Şenoğlu: 7 years 6 months

Seyfi Polat: 37 years 9 months

Soner Çiçek: 10 years 7 months 15 days

Sultan Ulusoy: 14 years, 4 months 15 days (Released)

Turaç Solak: 30 years, 1 month, 15 days

Uğur Kaysacı: 10 years, 1 month 15 days.

“Damn fascism, long live our struggle,” defendants shouted after the verdict announcement. Several riot police forces were also present in the courtroom. Convicted defendants were sent to prison after the end of trial. The case will be held in Appeals Court 9th Penal Chamber. (AS/BM)
