Turkey’s Human Right Association (IHD) Diyarbakır Province Branch released an annual report on the human right violations in the southeastern Kurdish cities, saying that at least 3,840 (including 44 children) were detained and 669 (including 106) were arrested in 2014.
According to the report, 19,614 human rights violations have been recorded.
“With the beginning of Resolution Process in 2013, the number of cases took dive. In 2014, on the other hand, it took up again due to clash environment,” IHD Vice President Raci Bilici said.
Some of the highlights from the report are as follows:
Interventions to demonstrations
* In 2014, law enforcement intervened 230 demonstrations, leaving 1,106 people wounded.
* During Kobane protests, 1,128 were detained including 56 children. Throughout the year, 3,840 were detained including 444 children. 669 were arrested including 106 children.
* Due to arbitrary interventions of security forces saying that the halt order was violated, 19 civilians were killed, 30 were gravely wounded.
Prisons
* Healthcare right in prisons engender deadly consequences. In 2014, there were 649 sick inmates in prisons with 247 in serious condition.
