Forensics Fail to Detect Berkin Elvan’s Cause of Death

Experts have completed their investigation on the death of Berkin Elvan, a 15 year old boy who died of comatose after being hit by a police gas bomb canister.

However, no details about the time incident are present in the reports issued by Information and Communication Technologies Authority Telecommunications Communication Presidency and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Office Presidency Traffic Control Center.

Lawyer Evrim Deniz Karatana stated that they demanded another expert’s analysis for investigating surveillance records and evaluation and for the reason that this expert’s report does not provide any information. 

Even though the report revealed some images from the police attack in Okmeydanı but it contained no images of Elvan. 

The evalutaion of the report of Transportation Office Presidency Traffic Control Center cites the following:

“There is no surveillance record of D100 Okmeydanı Highway at that date, and there is no surveillance cameras in front of the Cemal Kamacı Sports Facilities that belong to our Presidency.”

Separate investigation for the cause of death

Forensics Institute Administration also sent to the Prosecutor’s Office their autopsy report regarding Elvan’s death. 

Reaching no certain conclusion, the administration also forwarded the report to its superior 1st Forensics Specialized Institute (1. Adli Tıp İhtisas Kurulu) for further evaluation.  

1st Forensics Specialized Institute’s evalution is expected to be released for reaching Berkin Elvan’s cause of death. (AS/BAR/BM)
