The Turkish Writers Union (TYS) condemns daily Vakit and the internet site of habervaktim.com for making writer Küçük İskender a target of hatred.

According to the TYS, first Vakit attacked the poet for his participation in a Poem Night organized for the Turkish activities of the International Frankfurt Book Fair, where Turkey is the guest country. The sexist attack that was done in bad taste and provokingly was followed up by the internet site habervaktim.com, which sees itself as the “brother” institution of daily Vakit.

The news report about Küçük İskender points out to the reactions the government received for not giving an explanation about allowing a “homosexual, Kemalist and heroin-use-promoting” writer participate in such an activity.

Emphasizing that Küçük İskender’s homosexuality was especially targeted, the Union demands an apology from Vakit to poet Küçük İskender, the homosexuals and its own readers. (EZÖ/TB)
