Local Media Meet for Future Training Seminars

PressNow and IPS Communication Foundation conducted two preliminary meetings with local journalists in Tunceli and Diyarbakir. This will lead to joint training and support programmes for local media in Turkey.

The preliminary meeting for the local media training programmes to be organized by IPS Communication Foundation, Istanbul and PressNow, Amsterdam took place in Tunceli.

Local and nationwide working journalists attended the two-day meeting where problems local media outlets face were on the agenda.

Nico Haasbroek from PressNow and Ragip Duran from IPS Communication Foundation gave information on their undertakings.

Common problems of local media are technical shortcomings, economic constraints and lack of organization among journalists.

Haasbroek told that they will give economic and know-how support to local media by seminar programmes to be conducted in conjunction with IPS Communication Foundation.

Another preliminary meeting was done in Diyarbakir on 27-28 November with the participation of 22 local journalists.(EÜ)
