Communication School Dean Prof. Dr. Comak banned the Amigra magazine saying he did not understand the Kurdish and Armenian articles. He said he took this decision so that education is not harmed.
"We did not allow the distribution and sale of the magazine because we do not understand its content," said Comak. The magazine includes Kurdish and Armenian articles.
He advocated his decision by saying: "This ban is only effective within the university campus."
Dean Comak had rejected a petition requesting that the first issue of the magazine is distributed in the campus of the Communication School in Hereke.
Dean Comak also reacted against the questions of bianet. In response to the question: "Which regulation is this ban based on?" the Dean said, "All the regulations of the Turkish Republic and for the public security at the university. I made this decision so that education is not harmed."
Zana Kibar, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, who had previously spoken to the DHA news agency, said they had applied to the Police Headquarters with all documents about the magazine.
"Because of bureaucracy, we began distributing the March-April edition on April 10," said Kibar.
"But the Dean, did not allow the distribution of the magazine within the campus because of the Kurdish articles." (EO/BB/EA/YE)
