“The US plays an important role in the Middle East. Because of this, we’ll contemplate about a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue, during our meeting with president Obama,” Democratic Society Party (DTP) MP Sebahat Tuncel told bianet.

Barack Obama will arrive in Ankara this afternoon and tomorrow, he’ll address the parliament. Later, he’ll meet with political party leaders before heading to Istanbul.

Tuncel thinks Obama’s meeting would be important for DTP, as he regards them as a valid address to discuss the Kurdish issue. Even the AKP government refrains from doing so.

“Obama’s elections augmented hopes for peace on a global level” said Tuncel. “We’ll voice our demand for favoring diplomatic efforts instead of sheer force in trying to solve the problems in the region.”

She belied allegations that the DTP would ask Obama to pressure the government for an amnesty to PKK militants and an amendment to the constitution.

“Those are Turkey’s internal problems. Obama isn’t the right address for such demands, it’s the government.”(BÇ/AGÜ)
