Province party chair Tekin has announced that the CHP is contesting the results in five districts of Istanbul as well as the town of Safranbolu.
The Istanbul Province Party Chair Gürsel Tekin of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has announced that it will demand a recount of ballots in five districts in Istanbul where the parties were racing head-to-head.
In central Istanbul’s Beyoğlu, the official result is that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) received 47,774 votes (35.27 percent), and the CHP 44,571 votes (32.9 percent).
In Beylikdüzü, the AKP received 30,191 (32.11 percent) and the CHP 28,739 (30.57 percent). In Çekmeköy, the AKP got 34,089 votes (43.38 percent) and the CHP 33, 328 (42.41 percent). In Bayrampaşa, the AKP received 72,163 votes (44.46 percent) and the CHP 57,956 (35.72 percent). Finally, in Tuzla, the AKP got 37.052 votes (40.61 percent) and the CHP 35,369 (38.77 percent).
Meanwhile, the CHP has claimed that there were irregularities in the Safranbolu district of Karabük in the northwest of Turkey. The AKP mayoral candidate Necdet Aksoy received 8,988 votes, and the CHP candidate Mustafa Eren 8,748 votes. Eren has claimed that he has seen unsigned poll box records and that there were more poll cards than voters. (TK/AG)
