Nimet Çubukçu, Minister of State for Matters Concerning Women and Family, said that they were planning to object to the report given by the Medical Examiner’s Office about the fourteen-year-old B.Ç. who was sexually abused by Hüseyin Üzmez, a writer for daily Vakit.

Seventy-six-year-old Hüseyin Üzmez was released at the second hearing of his trial, as the report by the Medical Examiner’s Office stated there was no physical or psychological damage to the abused girl.

Çubukçu said, “When she arrived at our place this child was injured psychologically. The examination done at our institution had already determined this. The psychological examinations concerning sexually abused children need to be more sophisticated and detailed. I think the result will change after the court considers another expert.”

Üzmez was released, even though the proposal by the Supreme Court of Appeals did not materialize

Just recently, a proposal about letting the crime of sexually abusing children go unpunished was considered by the Ministry of Justice. The proposal had included suggestions such as lowering the legal age for marriage and forgiving the rapist who marries his victim.

Türkay Asma, who was at the meeting, said, “I was surprised to hear this proposal about lowering the legal age for marriage from 15 to 14, but then, when I remembered the Hüseyin Üzmez incident, I realized why it was brought up.”
