Lynch Attempt Against Female Prisoners At Gebze Prison

The male prisoners who are in for non-political crimes attacked the female prisoners who are in for sentences having to do with the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK).

According to the information given by a prisoner’s relative to the Free Radio, the female prisoners who are imprisoned for sentences having to do with the  Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) were attacked by the male prisoners who are imprisoned for non-political crimes in Gebze Closed Prison. The attack occured between October 17 and 18.

Chanting slogans such as “We will kill the terrorists”, “The motherland is indivisible”, “Open the doors, let us rape them,” the male prisoners damaged the doors.

When the female prisoners met with the prison administration, they were told their patriotic feelings were on the rise, they could not do anything.

On October 18, the male prisoners attacked the female prisoners with knives and sticks in their wards, injuring nine of them.

The names of the injured female prisoners are Azime Işık, Sibel Kurt, Zeynep Taşgül, Songül Yılmaz, Şehnaz Şahin, Aslı Doğan, Ayşe Irmak, Gülbahar Altsoy and Dilek Kurt.

The prison administration claimed that the male prisoners reached the doors of the wards by taking hostage the guardians. Those who were attacked are getting ready to file criminal complaints. (EZÖ/EÜ/TB)
