A suicide bomber suspected to be a militant from DHKP-C organization blew himself up at the US embassy in Ankara this morning, leaving 2 people dead.
According to various news sites from Turkey, the police disclosed suspect's identity as Ecevit Şanlı, Revolutionary People's Liberation Front (DHKP-C), a leftist organization.
The suspect, Ecevit Şanlı, was arrested for involving in 1997 Police Headquarter Attack in Istanbul. In 2000, he was allegedly involved in prison hunger strikes and diagnosed with Wernicke Korsakoff disease, which led to his acquittal in 2001.
Following the incident, embassy staff have been alarmed to retreat in the bunker and security personel blocked all human circulation to the building.
PM Erdogan, underlined the importance of joint action against "war on terror".
"Police is thoroughly investigating the case. We will have a new statement when we find anything," he said. "The suicide bomber blew himself up. 2 Turkish citizens have been reported to lose their lives. There are many wounded. We will overcome these attacks with our solidarity." (EKN/BM)
