We will not Give up Headscarf Struggle
Tuna, lawyer of Sahin, the Turkish woman who opened a case in the ECHR against Turkeys ban on headscarves in universities, said that even though the ECHR ruled in Turkeys favor, the legal process had not ended.
Tuna, speaking at the Mazlum-Der meeting, said that he and his client had been fighting this issue for 6 years and spent over $100,000 prosecuting the case.
Tuna said that even though the ECHR ruled in Turkey's favor, the legal process had not ended. Tuna pointed out that they would not give up on their struggle; instead, they will attempt to take the issue to the international arena.
Tuna indicated that members of the ECHR were embarrassed as they read the court's verdict. He defends that based upon the justification given in the verdict, even the ECHR judges do not believe in the decision they passed. (YE)
