IHD Van April Report: 21 Rights Violations

Lawyer Zeki Yuksel, head of the Van branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD) said 21 people applied to the association in April for rights violations. "Including those that appeared in the media, this number is 35," said Yuksel.

Yuksel, who spoke at the press conference by the IHD Van branch, said the incident where two pharmacists were killed in the Dogubeyazit district of Agri should be solved.

"The murder of the pharmacists should be solved," said Yuksel. "Two children died in an explosion at the Bostanici region of Van. There have been 5-6 similar incidents in Bostanici. For that reason, we believe that the Paramilitary Police Station should be moved out of the residential area."

Below is a list of human rights violations that took place in April:

* Six people were injured in a clash,

* Two people were murdered; murderers have not been identified,

* Two people died in explosions,

* Five people were detained,

* Six people were either tortured, subjected to bad treatment or were

threatened,

* One person was deprived of his freedom of defense and movement,

* One person was arbitrarily photographed,

* One person was removed from his post,

* A total of three interrogations and cases were brought against violations

of freedom of opinion, expression and organization,

* One demand was made for prison treatment,

* There were a total of 35 violations including others (1 refugee and 1
