Dailymotion Is Open, The Other Internet Sites Are Still Not

Among the sites that were banned by the Turkish authorities, only the video sharing site dailymotion was opened. The rest are still closed, waiting for the needed court orders.

YouTube is still not accessible in Turkey. The YouTube has been closed for four months in Turkey. According to the explanation given by the Telecommunication Institution, biggest video sharing site in the Internet. YouTube is still not accessible, because the order that resulted in the banning of the site needs to be removed by another court order.

YouTube and Kliptube are banned, but dailymotion is accessible

It is not known when YouTube will be open to the internet users, although it was announced last week that it was opened. Dailymotion site, another video sharing site that went through the same process, has been opened.

Kliptube.com and geocities.com are also in the same position as YouTube.

It is not the first time YouTube.com was banned

YouTube had been made inaccessible with the April 24, 2008 decision of Ankara’s 11th Criminal Court of Peace. Another decision by Ankara’s 5th Criminal Court of Peace had kept the site banned until the beginning of May.

The courts had taken these decisions because there were videos in the site they were deemd insulting to the memory of Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. (EÖ/EÜ/TB)
