A workshop for local reporters and journalists in Antalya, in the south of Turkey, was organised at the weekend (1 and 2 March) by the IPS Communcations Foundation and Press Now. Nadire Mater and Ruken Baris represented the two organisations respectively.
The workshop dealt with news reporting, media and ethics, and news photography and was run by Assistant Professor Esra Arsan from Bilgi University, Nico Haasbroek from Press Now and photographer Yücel Tunca.
Similar workshops organised by Press Now and the IPS Communication Foundation have been run in Tunceli and Diyarbakir in the southeast of Turkey and Ordu and Giresun in the Black Sea region in the north of Turkey.
The IPS Communications Foundation has run the Independent Communication Network (BIA) since 2000. This includes the daily bianet news website, training workshops for journalists, the production of radio programmes for regional media, legal support, media monitoring reports and the publication of books on journalism.
Press Now is an Amsterdam-based NGO, founded in 1993 in order to support independent media institutions. It is run with support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other organisations, and supports more than 100 media projects in the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Middle East and Northern Africa.
